1.0 Permanent Indigenous Student Transition and Support Worker - West Region

Effective August 28, 2025

The Indigenous Student Transition and Support Worker will work closely with the Indigenous Student Lead and/or School team to assist with leading and implementing programs, services and other supports to meet the unique needs of First Nation, Metis and Inuit students, and their families, with a focus on successful student learning from grade JK-12. The Indigenous Student Transition and Support Worker will report directly to the Principal of Student Achievement and Well-Being with the Indigenous Education Portfolio.

Location: West Region includes the communities of Parry Sound, Nobel, Humphrey, Mactier, Britt and surrounding areas

Qualifications

Minimum 2 year post secondary Diploma or Degree in Social Services or a Related Field
Demonstrated experience/knowledge of cultural teachings and best practices is required
Ojibwe language knowledge/proficiency would be beneficial

Responsibilities Will Include But Are Not Limited To

Establish trusting relationships with students, families, staff, and communities
Identify and work to remove barriers to student success
Provide guidance and support to identify pathways based on individualized strengths and interests
Ensure ongoing open dialogue with families
Provide access to resources that foster a sense of belonging
Facilitate access to community supports, course planning and mentorship for students
Create and enhance a welcoming supportive space for students in various schools with various school staff
Build close supportive relationships with students, families, and communities
Act as an advocate for students who identify as Indigenous
Facilitate strong communication between the schools, families, and First Nation communities
Assist with developing and/or enhancing cultural activities in the schools
Build and maintain community partnerships with agencies supporting cultural awareness within our schools
Provide Cultural Support

Additional Requirements

Valid Driver's License and reliable vehicle (travel is expected in this position)

Rate of pay: $44,856.00 to $51,282.00 annually
