Overview
We are looking for a Transportation Coordinator for the BC Flat Deck Kamloops Trucking Division, which specializes in serving key customers by hauling commodities such as lumber, pipe, building products and other loads across Western Canada. Responsibilities
- Coordinate and oversee routing and scheduling of daily trucking services to meet customer requirements, focusing on maximizing payload and productivity in a safe and effective manner.
- Assist with planning, coordination and oversight of routing and scheduling of drivers and equipment; ensure compliance with time schedules and applicable laws, codes, rules and regulations.
- Provide drivers with proper instructions, address driver concerns, and act on them appropriately.
- Create weekly/daily schedules based on customer targets and company objectives; ensure schedules are carried out effectively and efficiently.
- Coordinate daily assignment of company and contracted resources to maximize equipment productivity and payload while maintaining high customer service.
- Manage daily operations of the dispatch office; adjust for road closures, overloads, lateness and related problems.
- Communicate with drivers regarding truck problems, lateness and accidents; report compliance to daily targets to customers and outline actions if deviations occur.
- Oversee assignment of spare drivers during shortfalls of regular drivers.
- Coordinate with primary customers and applicable supplier sites to exchange information, coordinate activities and resolve trucking-related issues.
- Follow all workplace safety policies, comply with regulations, and participate in identifying hazards.
- Continuously review the trucking program for safety and cost-improvement opportunities and advise the manager on improvements.
- Assist in policy and process improvement; coordinate with shop personnel and drivers regarding repairs and preventative maintenance schedules.
- Schedule and coordinate required driver training and orientation; collect and review driver paperwork for accuracy and timeliness.
- Suggest changes in working conditions and equipment use to increase efficiency for the shop, department or work crew.
- Other duties as assigned by the Operations Supervisor and/or Division Manager.
Qualifications
- 4-6 years of successful experience as a Transportation Coordinator or similar role in trucking, logging, forestry, mining, or a related industry.
- Post-secondary education preferred.
- Strong safety mindset and organizational skills.
- Proven leadership ability to oversee a team.
- Exceptional problem solving and critical thinking skills; strong verbal and written communication.
- Strong work ethic, positive team attitude, and adaptability in a diverse environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and ability to learn new software applications.
- Commitment to internal and external customer service excellence; self-starter mentality.
- Mechanical inclination is a valuable asset.
