Key responsibilities


Study Data Collection, Entry and Management

  • Maintains accurate, timely, complete documentation and records as stipulated in study protocols.
  • Responsible for the proper use and understanding of applicable data capture systems (i.e. RedCAP) as required within the project.
  • Ensures project adheres to ethical and privacy requirements, including regular audit of performance.
  • Set-up and download study data from electronic platforms.
  • Collection and recording of data from patient charts and medical records.
  • Maintaining study spreadsheets and electronic case report forms.
  • Securely files patient data in designated study cabinets according to standard operating procedures.
  • Administers questionnaires and schedules study visits with study participants.

Manuscript and Report Writing

  • The research assistant will assist in developing and writing research reports, abstracts and will assist in writing academic manuscripts for publication.

Communication with Principal Investigator and Attendance at Team Meetings

  • The research assistant will report directly to the principal investigator of each study and will be expected to attend weekly team meetings with the PI and other members of the study team to report on study progress, recruitment and to identify any problems or barriers that have risen.
  • Monitors, and reports on project timelines, milestones and deliverables.
  • Establishes and maintains good working relationships with all team members.

Assisting with preparation and submission of Institutional Review Board (IRB), and Site Impact Application

  • The research assistant will be responsible assist with submitting applications, amendments or annual reports to IRBs and to other oversight committees as required in the nature of the research project. Typically, this will occur 1-3 times per year.
  • Preparation of University of Manitoba REB submissions, Shared Health Impact submissions, and other submissions as assigned.
  • Maintains ongoing Ethics renewals, communication and reporting.
  • Works with lead research coordinators for reporting of adverse events according to the study protocol and in accordance with local ethics board and study Data and Safety Monitoring Board.
  • Assists with writing project status reports.
  • Assists with amendments when needed.
  • May be required to perform related duties not exceeding skills and capabilities as required.
