The Facilities Assistant - Summer Student position will have the opportunity to gain experience in SIIT's Facilities department while developing the skills necessary to be successful in their future. As an employee of SIIT, this position will positively promote and create an environment that demonstrates SIIT's vision, mission and mandate.
General Accountabilities
Reporting to the Sr. Project Manager, the incumbent provides support within the Facilities department- while maintaining excellent customer service. The summer student will have an opportunity to improve their teamwork and communication skills, as well as, their leadership capabilities. This position includes the following broad range of accountabilities:
Specific Accountabilities
Perform minor maintenance/repairs that require the ability to safely use a variety of tools/equipment
Move, deliver, assemble and record inventory records of tables, chairs, desks and other office furniture
Collect recyclable items from within SIIT facilities and deposit in appropriate bins
Provide spot cleaning services within buildings and their associated grounds
Patrol assigned areas to ensure personal, building, and equipment security
Examine doors, windows, and garage gates to determine they are secure
Inform and warns violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles
Minor administrative functions
Provide additional support on special projects and department initiatives as required
There may be some summer student positions that must meet the following criteria:
First Nations and Inuit secondary and post-secondary students aged 15 to 30 inclusive
Ordinarily resident on reserve or in recognized communities or on community lands
Legally entitled to work in Canada
Registered as students during the preceding academic year and who intend to return to studies in the next academic year
Position Requirements: Prior experience working with Microsoft Office suite of programs is an asset; ability to perform physical activities and lift up to 50 pounds. Valid driver's license as there is potential for travel and overnight layovers at remote SIIT locations.
As this position is considered safety sensitive, the incumbent will be subject to testing as per SIIT's Alcohol and Substances policy.
