Senior Environmental Engineer – WSP Contaminated Sites

Job Overview

Our WSP Contaminated Sites team in the Prairies is expanding and we are adding a Senior Environmental Engineer to serve industrial and government clients across Western Canada, the Northwest Territories, and Nunavut. You will collaborate with hydrogeologists, engineers, geochemists, and other technical staff to design and oversee landfill and landfill gas projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and preparation of specifications for new or expanding landfill projects, including landfill caps, containment systems for ponds and lagoons, and landfill gas systems.
  • Supervise construction activities to ensure projects meet regulatory, design, and quality control requirements.
  • Implement and monitor Quality Control and Quality Assurance programs for liner systems.
  • Develop and finalize design drawings and specifications for landfill gas systems and oversee their installation.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to multidisciplinary teams.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and documentation for regulatory compliance and client communication.
  • Conduct environmental impact assessments, land evaluations, and waste management strategy development.
  • Stay current with industry standards, technologies, and best practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Environmental, Civil, Geological Engineering, or related engineering disciplines.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in landfill design, construction oversight, quality control, and landfill gas system design and installation.
  • Experience with design drawings, specifications, and construction supervision of landfills, caps, and containment systems for ponds and lagoons.
  • Field experience in Quality Control and Quality Assurance programs for natural and synthetic liner systems.
  • Knowledge of beneficial use of collected landfill gas.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Involvement in and supervision of professional teams in this field.
  • Registration in or ability to register with APEGA or other provincial jurisdictions.
  • Minimum of three references required.
