Package Lead

Job Description

The Package Lead will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing the procurement of construction materials based on specific work packages for large-scale mining construction projects. This role ensures timely and cost-effective acquisition of materials that meet quality and compliance standards, contributing to the successful completion of project phases on schedule.

Responsibilities

Procurement Planning

  • Collaborate with project and engineering teams to understand material requirements based on specific work packages.
  • Develop and maintain a detailed procurement plan, aligning material purchases with project schedules and milestones.

Sourcing and Vendor Management

  • Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers who meet quality, cost, and delivery requirements, ensuring adherence to company standards and project specifications.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with vendors, negotiating favorable terms and managing contracts to ensure compliance with scope and project timelines.
  • Conduct periodic supplier evaluations to ensure continued compliance with quality standards and address any performance issues.
  • Coordinate with Regional Development staff to ensure maximum benefit for Indigenous groups and other impacted communities.

Purchase Order Management

  • Prepare and issue purchase orders based on approved work packages, coordinating with finance for budgetary alignment and approvals.
  • Monitor order status, expedite orders when necessary, and manage any issues related to delivery delays or discrepancies.
  • Work with logistics to coordinate transportation, storage, and handling of materials on-site, ensuring alignment with project schedules.

Documentation and Compliance

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date procurement records, including purchase orders, delivery notes, and supplier agreements.
  • Ensure all procurement activities comply with company policies, safety standards, and applicable regulations within the mining and construction industries.
  • Prepare regular reports on procurement status, budget tracking, and supplier performance to inform project management and stakeholders.

Compensation

  • Compensation will be based on qualifications and experience.
  • Compensation is based on actual hours worked.

Work Schedule

  • Potential for 10-hour days during brief periods of high workload.

Qualifications/Experience/Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in procurement within construction, mining, or heavy industry projects.
  • Strong understanding of procurement processes, vendor negotiation, and inventory management within a construction environment.
  • Proficient in procurement software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience within Procurement enterprise systems an asset (SAP, SmartPlant, or similar).
