The Operations Research and Capacity Modelling Staff Specialist / Industrial Engineer opening is a current vacant position at General Dynamics Land Systems – Canada. The base salary hiring range for this position is $70,400 to $92,400 per year. Once in the role, successful candidates will have the opportunity to progress through the full salary range based on performance. This range reflects the base salary only and does not include additional components of our total compensation package, such as our incentive award program and other rewards like health benefits, employee profit-sharing, retirement savings, and more. Key Job Elements:
- Design and develop advanced analytical and optimization tools to support enterprise planning initiatives and decision making, including:
- Capacity Modelling and forecasting for production and resource allocation
- Resource planning to optimize workforce, materials, and scheduling
- Linear Programming and Network Optimization to drive cost efficiency and throughput
- Queueing Theory and Simulation Modelling to improve system flow, reduce bottlenecks, and increase performance predictability
- Build and automate dynamic reporting solutions, leveraging data visualization and modeling tools (e.g., Power BI, Excel, Python-based analytics) to enhance business transparency and efficiency.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teamsto understand analytical needs, define project objectives, and deliver solutions that directly support business goals.
- Lead or participate in special projectsfocused on process improvement, cost reduction, and performance optimization, from concept through implementation.
- Champion continuous improvement initiativesby identifying automation opportunities, streamlining workflows, and introducing innovative analytics techniques to elevate business performance.
- Support and maintain departmental tools, utilities, and databasesto ensure integrity, accuracy, and long-term scalability of analytics systems.
- Diagnose and resolve technical issuesin analytical tools and reporting systems, ensuring seamless operation and reliability across platforms.
- Provide thought leadership and mentorshipto peers by sharing best practices, analytical methodologies, and technical expertise to strengthen overall team capability.
- Undergraduate Degree
- Strong communication, organization and prioritization skills
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think analytically
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Demonstrated strength in MS Office applications
- Experience with data visualization tools (e.g. Power BI)
- Familiarity with Agile and Scrum methodologies
- Development experience with Python, SQL Databases
- University degree in Data Management and/or Industrial Engineering
- Knowledge of statistical analysis, machine learning techniques and Operations Research
