The Role

The ABC News Channel is looking for an early-to-mid career news producer who lives and breathes news and thrives in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. On any given day you'll be across more than a dozen stories writing copy, cutting vision as well as producing live crosses and identifying the news lines in interviews and press conferences.

You will work closely with our team of producers, contributing to daily news production, undertaking a range of editorial and technical tasks, and supporting the smooth operation of the newsroom. This includes contributing to editorial discussions, creating news content, generating story ideas, monitoring news sources, and helping develop and mentor newer staff as required

The Job

  • Produce content for News Channel bulletins, programs and on‑demand platforms, including writing scripts and editing video.
  • Monitor breaking news, maintain strong understanding of current events and develop a broad network of contacts.
  • Collaborate with producers, reporters and correspondents and contribute to the training and development of new staff. 
  • Work across a 24/7 rotating roster.
  • Uphold ABC's editorial, safety and workplace policies while actively promoting ABC values. 

Position Description:

About You

You're a confident and capable news producer with sound editorial judgement and news production skills.

You'll have: 

  • Proven editorial experience ideally with gained in a TV or radio newsroom.
  • Experience writing for broadcast and sound desktop editing skills.
  • The ability to perform under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
