Responsibilities
Tasks
Explain procedures
Operate X-ray, radiographic and fluoroscopic equipment
Operate magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners
Operate radiation therapy equipment
Perform scheduled maintenance and minor repairs on equipment
Position patients
Prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals materials to patients or to biological samples
Supervise technical staff
Train technicians, assistants, students or interns
Assist radiation oncologists and clinical physicists with preparation of radiation treatment plan
Wear radiation detection equipment to acquire data for use by nuclear medicine physicians in the diagnosis of disease
Assist in the preparation of sealed radioactive materials and the construction of plaster casts and acrylic moulds to assist with administration of radiation treatment
Perform diagnostic procedures using radioactive materials on biological specimens
Record and process results of procedures
Apply radiation protection measures
Explain procedures and side effects of radiation
Perform basic verification and quality control checks on radiographic and film processing equipment
Record and process patient data
Provide appropriate care and monitoring of the patient during the examination
Credentials
Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses
Certification of the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists
