Your Opportunity:
Child and Adolescent Mental Health at the Royal Alexandra and Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospitals provides tertiary-level services for youth and families navigating complex emotional, behavioral, and mental health challenges. Care is delivered through a multidisciplinary, patient centered approach. Reporting to the Unit Manager or designate, the Mental Health Aide supports direct patient care by assisting with hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs, including direct observation. Working as part of the multidisciplinary team, the Mental Health Aide helps maintain a safe therapeutic environment for patients, families, staff, and visitors while adhering to care plans and hospital policies. The successful candidate demonstrates strong verbal and nonverbal communication skills, active listening, and the ability to build professional, respectful relationships with patients, families, and colleagues. This role requires emotional regulation, calm and focused decision-making under pressure, and the ability to collaborate effectively with the assigned nurse, charge nurse, and broader team. Supporting patient engagement, empowerment, and participation in treatment is a key component of this position.
Description:
As a Mental Health Aide, you will work as a collaborative member of the multidisciplinary team to provide a welcoming and safe care environment. You will assist in the provision of direct patient/client care as delegated in a person-centered, recovery oriented and safe manner. In this position, you will assist and / or promote independence to patients/clients in completing activities of daily living as well as assisting other health professionals with providing treatments and observing and reporting relevant patient/client information to professional staff. You will assist new patients/clients and families with orientation, and assist in the general support of the work area.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of Grade 12. A combination of education and experience satisfactory to the employer will also be considered.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Completion of Mental Health First Aide certificate required. BCLS-HCP (Basic Cardiac Life Support). Must be registered with the Alberta Health Care Aide (HCA) Directory. English language proficiency required.
Preferred Qualifications:
P.C.A or M.A.A certification or equivalent. Hospital experience working in mental health (minimum 2 years). Experience in working with children and adolescent mental health patients preferred. Certification in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention
