Position Summary:

We are seeking a motivated, relationship-driven Grain Originator (Junior to Intermediate Level) who excels at building long-term producer relationships and growing SLG's grain supply.

This role focuses on building strong producer partnerships, originating grain, and collaborating with internal teams to ensure profitable and dependable grain movement.

Reporting to the Grain Merchant, this role is intended as a long-term position with a defined growth and development path. As the Grain Originator builds experience and producer relationships, there will be opportunities to expand scope, take on additional responsibilities, and progress within the grain merchandising function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Actively pursue new business opportunities while maintaining and strengthening relationships with existing customers.

  • Provide customers with market insights, cash and basis bids, and timely grain marketing information.

  • Monitor customer activity, competitor movements, and industry trends to inform business decisions.

  • Conduct farm visits with existing and prospective producers, gathering information and promoting a positive company image.

  • Manage and update the company's social media and digital platforms with relevant grain marketing content.

  • Represent the company at farm visits, elevator locations, and agricultural events.

  • Maintain a daily hedged position, ensuring reconciliation with the consolidated business position.

  • Accurately input grain contracts, pricing, and hedges in a timely manner.

  • Review and analyze grain activity using appropriate reports and analytics tools.

  • Utilize electronic trading platforms, business systems, and shared company directories effectively.

  • Provide support for logistics and other grain origination activities as needed.

  • Collaborate with internal teams, including merchandisers, accountants, and logistics, to share information and optimize operations.

Qualifications & Experience

· 1–5 years of experience in grain origination, merchandising, or agricultural sales, or a strong interest in building a career in grain marketing

· knowledge of Ontario grain production and cropping cycles

· Understanding of futures, basis, and grain pricing mechanisms

· Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook

· Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills

· Self-motivated with strong time-management abilities

· Comfortable with travel throughout Ontario

· Valid Ontario driver's license

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $65,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
