Job Description
Job Description
Datatrac powers the last mile of logistics. We’re building the next generation of our cloud platform to help delivery companies, drivers, and their customers connect seamlessly.
Datatrac is bringing AI agents directly into the operational core of last-mile delivery businesses. We’re hiring a Forward Deployed Engineer to sit at the intersection of customers, product, and engineering.
In the first phase of this role, you’ll be on the ground with customers. You’ll be traveling to sites, embedding with their teams, and deploying phone and email AI agents into real workflows. You’ll see firsthand what breaks, what works, and what actually delivers value. Then you’ll feed those insights directly back into the product.
Over time, this role will expand into leading AI product strategy at Datatrac, shaping what we build, why we build it, and how it gets deployed at scale.
This is a hands-on, high-impact role. It’s not theoretical. It’s not armchair product management. You will ship, deploy, learn, and iterate fast.
What You’ll Do (Initial Focus)
- Travel to customer sites to deploy Datatrac’s AI phone and email agents into live production workflows
- Configure, customize, and integrate AI agents with customer systems
- Work directly with customer stakeholders to understand workflows, edge cases, and constraints
- Debug real-world issues during deployments and ensure successful go-lives
- Collect real-time feedback from customers and translate it into clear product and engineering insights
- Act as the technical face of Datatrac during early AI implementations
How the Role Evolves
- As the initial deployment pipeline stabilizes, your scope will expand to:
- Leading AI product direction based on real customer usage and outcomes
- Defining deployment standards, playbooks, and best practices
- Partnering with engineering to prioritize AI features and platform improvements -
Influencing long-term AI architecture and roadmap decisions
- Helping scale deployments from bespoke implementations to repeatable, high-leverage systems
Travel Expectations
- Heavy travel in the first few months (multiple customer deployments per month)
- Travel will decrease over time as deployments become standardized and scalable
- You must be comfortable being on-site, customer-facing, and occasionally working long days during implementations
Why This Role Matters
This role directly shapes Datatrac’s AI product. The insights you gather in the field will determine what we build next—and what we don’t. You’ll have outsized influence on product direction, customer outcomes, and the company’s AI strategy.
If you want to work on AI that actually runs businesses—and you’re comfortable getting your hands dirty—this role is for you.
What We’re Looking For
- Strong software engineering fundamentals
- Experience deploying products in real customer environments (forward-deployed, solutions engineer, founding engineer, or similar)
- Comfort working across backend systems, APIs, data pipelines, and AI/ML services
- Hands-on experience with LLMs, conversational AI, or AI agents (production experience preferred)
- Ability to translate messy real-world requirements into pragmatic technical solutions
- Excellent communication skills (you can talk to engineers and operators without losing either)
- High ownership mindset (you don’t wait for perfect specs or perfect conditions)
