Woodhouse Group Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented, strategic, and highly experienced Estimator to join our growing team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in pre-construction planning, cost analysis, and project execution for commercial, industrial, institutional, and residential construction projects. As a leader in the estimating department. The Estimator will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure accurate, competitive bids and seamless project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Evaluation: Analyze project drawings, specifications, and related documents to interpret the scope and requirements. Conduct thorough site visits and assessments as needed to gather essential information and identify potential challenges.
  • Cost Estimation: Prepare detailed quantity take-offs, cost estimates, and pricing for all facets of construction, including labour, materials, equipment, and subcontractor work. Utilize industry-standard software and tools for precise calculations.
  • Bidding Process: Lead the development of competitive bids and proposals, ensuring all submissions meet client expectations, project requirements, and deadlines. Coordinate and communicate effectively with suppliers and subcontractors for pricing and scope clarification.
  • Risk Assessment: Evaluate and quantify risks associated with project delivery, including logistical constraints, material availability, site conditions, and regulatory requirements. Present recommendations and mitigation strategies to leadership.
  • Value Engineering: Identify opportunities for cost savings, design optimization, and alternative construction methods without compromising quality or safety. Collaborate with design and operations teams to propose innovative solutions.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain organized records of all estimates, proposals, supplier quotes, and correspondence. Prepare comprehensive reports for project managers and executives outlining estimate breakdowns, assumptions, and contingencies.
  • Client Interaction: Attend meetings with clients, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to clarify project parameters, answer technical questions, and provide guidance throughout the pre-construction phase.
  • Market Research: Stay informed of current trends in construction costs, materials, and labour rates. Evaluate supplier and vendor qualifications and performance to ensure competitiveness and reliability.
  • Team Leadership: Mentor and support junior estimators, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and professional development within the department.
  • Quality Control: Review and approve estimates prepared by other team members, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company standards and client requirements.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline is preferred. Additional certifications (e.g., CCCA, PMP, or relevant estimating credentials) are highly regarded.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in construction estimating, with demonstrable expertise in commercial and institutional projects. Prior experience in a senioror leadership estimating role is essential.
  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced skills in estimating software (such as Timberline, WinEst, or similar), Microsoft Office Suite, and project management platforms. Strong understanding of drawings, specifications, and building codes.
  • Analytical Skills: Exceptional attention to detail, quantitative analysis, and problem-solving abilities. Capable of synthesizing complex data and making informed decisions under tight deadlines.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present detailed information clearly to clients, team members, and senior management.
  • Organizational Skills: Superior time management, prioritization, and organizational abilities. Experience managing multiple estimates and projects concurrently.
  • Leadership: Proven leadership, mentoring, and team-building skills. Ability to collaborate and inspire others in a fast-paced environment.
