The Yukon's Emergency Medical Services (YEMS) team delivers a wide scope of pre-hospital care. We deliver medical interventions, treatments, and critical care in every corner of the Yukon. Leadership, dedication, and partnership guides our work. We enact these qualities from the moment we receive a call to the time when we transfer a patient at a health care facility.
Your role
The Emergency Response Communications Officer (ERCO) is the first point of contact 911 callers have with Yukon Emergency Medical Services. Following established policies and standard operating procedures, the ERCO is responsible for receiving, evaluating, prioritizing, and dispatching both emergency and non-emergency medical incidents. ERCOs will efficiently assess, process, prioritize, coordinate, and deploy the appropriate land and air resources to deal with emergency medical situations throughout the Yukon within an appropriate timeframe, as prescribed by call priority and guiding documentation.

Essential qualifications

Experience working in a fast paced, public facing, work environment
Experience in call-taking and/or dispatching, preferably in a first-response capacity would be an asset.
Experience liaising with allied agencies (i.e. Police, Fire, Health Care Professionals) would be considered an asset,
Experience working in emergency response, or a health care setting would be considered an asset.

Ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy in dealing with clients' inquiries during difficult and emotional times while maintaining confidentiality.
Ability to interpret and apply policy with minimal oversight
Excellent interpersonal abilities, including verbal and written communication with medical professionals, and strong conflict resolution skills.
Excellent active listening skills in conjunction with fast paced typing abilities
Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
Ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced environment with multiple critical and time-sensitive deadlines.

Conditions of employment
You must meet the following conditions before being hired, or within the time frame noted.
Security clearance including vulnerable sector check, CPR-HCP- current valid certification (will be provided), EMD valid certification (will be provided).
Job Requirements
This job requires you to perform, and/or be exposed to, the following:
Shift work including weekends and holidays, wearing a uniform, Works in an office setting, Exposure to Video Display Terminal (VDT) at least 70% of the time, Audio exposure to distressed, emotional, and injured clients, maintaining all conditions of employment, Successful completion of YEMS ERCO Training including EMD.
