Position Summary
The Director of Operations, NWT provides senior operational leadership for Blachford Lodge, ensuring infrastructure reliability, operational stability, regulatory compliance, and effective site management.
This role oversees lodge operations, property and systems management, logistics coordination, and operational planning to support safe, compliant, and efficient operations in a remote northern setting.
As a member of the senior leadership team, the Director works collaboratively with HR, Finance, Guest Services, and Sales to ensure aligned and sustainable operations.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Provide direct leadership to the Lodge Manager and Systems Lead
- Establish clear reporting structures and accountability
- Support seasonal planning and operational readiness
- Maintain regular on-site leadership presence
Infrastructure & Property Oversight
- Ensure reliability of utilities, fuel systems, and infrastructure
- Implement preventative maintenance programs
- Oversee contractor coordination
- Identify and escalate infrastructure risks
Regulatory & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety standards
- Maintain adherence to land, water, and environmental permits
- Maintain documentation and reporting systems
- Coordinate compliance frameworks with HR and Finance
Budget & Financial Alignment
- Develop and manage operational budgets
- Monitor expenditures and cost controls
- Provide operational input into capital planning
- Exercise delegated budget authority
Logistics & Systems Development
- Oversee logistics and supply coordination
- Ensure operational readiness for peak guest programming
- Develop SOPs and operational dashboards
- Support continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications
Experience
- 710 years of operational leadership experience
- Experience in remote, northern, hospitality, tourism, or infrastructure environments
- Experience overseeing facilities, logistics, or property management
- Demonstrated budget management experience
Skills
- Strong operational leadership and sound decision-making
- Systems-oriented, structured thinker
- Ability to balance strategy with hands-on leadership
- Effective cross-functional collaboration
- Strong risk assessment and problem-solving skills
Working Conditions
This role requires regular travel to a fly-in lodge in a remote northern environment and comfort operating in extreme weather conditions with aviation-based logistics.
