Salary
Range of $120,400 CAD to $180,600 CAD per annum.
Position Summary
The Deputy Plant Manager/Leader is responsible for the on‑site day‑to‑day management, planning, and execution of manufacturing nuclear power plant products at the Peterborough site. The role promptly resolves issues and escalates high‑level concerns to the Plant Director for collaboration and resolution.
Day‑to‑Day Duties
- Direct and manage plant operations for continuous improvement in safety, environmental compliance, production, maintenance, quality, shipping, and receiving.
- Coordinate plant activities, give direction, resolve problems, and set deadlines to assure that plant objectives are met safely and effectively. Work with the Plant Leader/Director to align plant operations with overall GOS objectives and strategy.
- Assist the Plant Director in developing the financial plan and budget. Implement effective cost‑control systems over capital, operating expenditures, labor, wages, and salaries to meet company profitability and financial objectives.
- Ensure site compliance with all established company, corporate policies, procedures, and governmental regulations pertaining to plant safety or environmental issues.
- Maintain and develop existing plant facilities and equipment; coordinate with the Plant Director to ensure healthy maintenance and growth spending on capital investments for long‑term capacity and capability.
- Lead, coach, develop, and manage the performance of direct reports and the organization to achieve goals and objectives, continuously striving to improve effectiveness and efficiency.
- Make educated business decisions for the site based on multiple data points including financial, QEHS, people, and customer interest aligned with the business and operational strategy.
- Represent the plant to internal and external stakeholders with the Plant Director, making presentations, conducting meetings, and communicating with all levels of the corporation regarding manufacturing‑related activities.
- Lead by example, instill skillsets and mindsets, and drive continuous improvement by leading projects, strategic initiatives, and cross‑functional teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Engineering, Material Science, Manufacturing Management) or equivalent management or technical experience in a similar industry.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible manufacturing experience, including managing and mentoring direct reports.
- Manufacturing excellence acumen – apply modern manufacturing techniques to drive year‑over‑year continuous productivity improvement.
- Employee relations – develop and maintain positive relationships with local unions and the overall workforce.
- Collaboration skills – maintain strong collaborative relationships across the organization and unions.
- Ability to work under pressure and deadlines with little direction and good autonomy to own the full cycle of strategy, forecasting, and results.
- Leadership skills – model a results‑oriented culture; motivate, coach, drive performance; maximize manufacturing excellence to achieve strategic deliverables and bottom‑line results.
- Communication skills – effectively utilize all methods of communication, oral and written, to ensure manufacturing strategy is clearly understood across the organization.
- Financial skills – analyze and interpret financial data, budgets, and other financial reports; translate information into manufacturing action items, goals, and deliverables.
- Technical expertise – continuously seek to advance and share professional knowledge, develop new ideas, and adopt best industry practices to maintain state‑of‑the‑art manufacturing capability.
- Talent management skills – identify and develop key talent and a strategically focused workforce within the manufacturing organization.
