Crane Operator

Job Summary:
The Crane Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of overhead/bridge cranes to lift, move, and organize rebar bundles and materials within the warehouse. This role involves ensuring load security, complying with safety standards, conducting inspections, and collaborating with ground personnel to maintain a safe work environment in line with company and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
· Conduct pre-operational inspections of cranes and related equipment at the start of each shift, complete daily safety checklists, and report any defects or safety concerns prior to commencing work.
· Prepare the overhead crane for daily use and ensure all rigging gear, slings, hooks, and attachments are appropriate, secure, and in good working condition before hoisting operations begin.
· Verify the bay area is clear of personnel, obstructions, and hazards before and during crane operation to prevent accidental contact or injuries.
· Assess and confirm load weights and ensure rebar bundles and sub-bundles comply with internal company load charts and crane capacity limits.
· Perform a quick visual inspection of rebar bundles for visible damage, defects, or irregularities as they are lifted, and report any concerns prior to relocation.
· Safely lift, relocate, and stack rebar bundles in designated storage or staging areas, ensuring loads are stable, balanced, and organized.
· Follow all company safety policies, standard operating practices (SOPs), and regulatory requirements during crane operations, and promptly report any unsafe conditions.
· Coordinate with ground personnel, signalers, riggers, and other team members to ensure effective communication and safe material handling.
Qualifications & Requirements
· High school diploma or equivalent; additional training or certification in crane operation preferred.
· Overhead crane certification, or industry-specific training, is an asset and may be required based on provincial regulations.
· Proven experience operating overhead or industrial cranes, preferably in a rebar yard, construction, or manufacturing environment.
· Strong understanding of load charts, rigging practices, safe lifting techniques, and workplace safety procedures.
· Excellent attention to detail, spatial awareness, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse team members.
· Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and adhering to all regulatory and company safety requirements.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
· This role involves operating heavy equipment in an industrial warehouse setting and may include exposure to weather, noise, and physical activity associated with rigging and materials handling.
· Operators must be able to sit for extended periods, manipulate controls with precision, and respond quickly to dynamic worksite conditions.
