Overview
Dalhousie University and Nova Scotia Health (NSH) invite applications for a full-time academic family physician (1.0 FTE) available in the Department of Family Medicine (Halifax). The successful candidate will be granted an academic appointment at Dalhousie University and be an active staff member with the Central Zone Department of Family Practice, NSH, and the IWK. This position offers opportunities for professional development within academic family medicine in a dynamic department with over 800 community-based family physicians in 64 communities throughout the three Maritime provinces.
This position involves the provision of ambulatory, team-based, and comprehensive academic family medicine care including clinical supervision of medical learners. Academic responsibilities will include the training and evaluation of family medicine residents and medical students while contributing to the academic development and administration of the Dalhousie University Department of Family Medicine.
The Department seeks a 0.5 FTE commitment to academic leadership in the role of Associate Department Head. This role is responsible for Family Medicine academic programming within Nova Scotia’s Central Zone. Responsibilities include working collaboratively with the Department Head and other key stakeholders on short- and long-term residency expansion plans in Nova Scotia. As a member of the Halifax-based academic group, the Associate Department Head will work closely with academic and clinical leaders across the Central Zone.
Responsibilities
- The remainder of the position includes 0.4 FTE in clinical care, specifically the provision of ambulatory, team-based, and comprehensive academic family medicine, including clinical supervision, teaching, and evaluation of medical learners.
- The remaining 0.1 FTE will be dedicated to non-clinical academic teaching and administrative activities.
Qualifications
- CFPC certification or equivalent and be a current and ongoing member of the College of Family Physicians of Canada or a current member of an equivalent group.
- Eligible to obtain a full license to practice in Nova Scotia.
- Favourable consideration for applicants with evidence of advanced academic competencies such as relevant certificates or postgraduate degrees.
Appointment details
Academic rank and remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, with the appointment anticipated to commence as early as May 2026.
