Job Description
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone. The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist functions as an expert practitioner, consultant, educator, and researcher in a defined practice area. The role provides consultation services to individuals and groups both within and outside the organization, applying advanced clinical knowledge to assess, design, implement, and evaluate medication use initiatives, research, training programs, and the delivery of clinical pharmacy services.
Qualifications
- Licensed by the College of Pharmacists of British Columbia.
- Accredited post‑baccalaureate PharmD from a Canadian University or an accredited Year‑Two Pharmacy Residency plus a minimum of two (2) years of clinical pharmacy practice experience, including one year related to the defined practice area, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated proficiency and achievement in clinical pharmacy practice.
- Clinical knowledge and ability in the care of patients within the area of specialty.
- Ability to establish curricula and conduct performance evaluations for clinical rotations within the assigned area.
- Ability to retrieve and evaluate drug literature to support the development of clinical care pathways and medication use evaluations.
- Effective communication, both orally and in writing, with a variety of stakeholders.
- Ability to coach, mentor, teach, demonstrate techniques, and facilitate learning within a multidisciplinary setting.
- Ability to recognize and deal with emergent situations.
- Ability to organize work, establish priorities and meet deadlines.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, staff, other health‑care providers, and community agencies.
- Demonstrated conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to promote and foster good public relations.
- Ability to operate related equipment, including computerized systems.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
