Position: CLINICAL ENGINEERING
Department: CLINICAL ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN
The role of the Clinical Engineering Technician is to provide safe, effective and economical healthcare. The primary responsibility is the implementation of Medical Device Technology Services including adherence to recognized safety, quality, cost and efficiency standards. This mid-level technician has a number of years of experience servicing progressively more sophisticated medical equipment including items such as instrument washers, sterilizers, electric hospital bed, and patient over bed lifts, renal water systems and nurse call systems.
Responsibilities:
- Provide safe, properly functioning and readily available devices to the organization at an economical cost.
- Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on all medical devices in the organization.
- In-coming inspection on all medical devices introduced in the organization.
- Acquisition of capital equipment; participate in capital equipment budgeting and planning.
- Inventory management.
- Collect, evaluate and provide the organization with relevant information pertaining to Medical Device technology assessment - short and long-term capital planning.
- To minimize the impact of device-related risk on patients and staff, on financial and physical resources as well as the reputation of the organization.
- Satisfy recipient of service (e.g. Nursing, Lab) consistent with professional standards and ethics and continuous improvement of service.
- Maintain a high level of technical competence.
- Develop awareness of the appropriate use of devices throughout the organization.
- Maintain manual of policies and procedures (CMMS System)
- Maintain short and long-term department strategic plans
- Outline the scope of services provided through regular staff meetings.
- Time and funds (budget) preparation and maintenance, Obtain budgetary Quotes.
QUALIFICATIONS
Certification/Experience/Knowledge:
- 2 – 3 years Engineering Technician/Technology diploma or a combination of other technical/ mechanical/ electrical certification training
- 3 – 5 years of medical equipment specific maintenance experience
- 3 – 5 years of healthcare experience
- Specific training and experience in servicing instrument washers, sterilizers, electric hospital beds, Patient Lift systems, OR tables and Reverse Osmosis water units
- Experience with various Microsoft Windows platforms required
- Completion of professional development seminars are assets
- Experience with information network, communication, and CCTV/access security systems, and medical devices (IV pumps, oximeters, etc), lab equipment, etc are assets
Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), organizational and problem-solving skills required
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to work in a fast-paced high stress environment and meet deadlines required
- Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, courteously and tactfully with employees and clients required
- Must demonstrate commitment to ensure your safety, the safety of fellow workers, patients, volunteer and visitors
- Must support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events in this organization
- Excellent attendance and work record required
- Bilingualism (Advanced level English/French) is an asset
